Who handles the data
Data controller: SkateboardMap · contact: info@skateboardmap.com.
What data and why
- Account (only if you sign up): email, optional name, password stored only as a hash, or your Google account id if you sign in with Google. Used to log you in and for account services (favourites, contributions, alerts). Legal basis: providing the service you ask for.
- Contributions: spots, photos, ratings and comments you send, with the name you choose. They are public after moderation.
- Security: we only keep a non-reversible hash of your IP address, to limit spam and login attempts.
- Statistics: Google Analytics measures visits in aggregate and uses cookies. Our internal visit counters use no personal data.
- Location: GPS is used only in your browser to show nearby spots; we do not store it. The exception is Crew location sharing, only if you turn it on: while the app is open we keep your latest position (about once a minute) and show it only to your friends and crew mates; after 30 minutes without updates it is no longer shown, and turning sharing off deletes it immediately.
- Map time without an account: if you don't have an account, the app counts how many minutes a day you use the map, because without an account the time is limited. It uses a technical cookie with a random code (sbm_vid) and stores the time per day, the device and browser type, the language, where you first came from (for example Instagram or a search engine, with a technical cookie sbm_src for 30 days) and the shortened IP address (without its last part). No name or position. If you then create an account from that browser, the count is linked to the account. The data is deleted after 90 days.
- Visits (only if you have an account): how many times you open the app, when you last opened it and the approximate town and country of that visit (from GPS only if you allowed it; we do not store the position). Used for internal statistics.
- Profile photo (optional): your friends and crew see it; you can change or remove it from your account.
- Crew: nickname, friends, crews and skate calls (place, time, message and answers), visible only to the people involved. Calls expire 6 hours after their time.
Emails
We only write to confirm your email, reset your password, for Crew requests and calls (you can turn these off) and, if you turn them on, alerts. No advertising, never shared with third parties.
Providers
Hosting and email: Infomaniak (Switzerland). Maps: Google Maps, Mapbox and OpenFreeMap. Weather: Open-Meteo (through our server). Place search: OpenStreetMap Nominatim. Google sign-in: Google. Statistics: Google Analytics (only with your consent). Spot data: OpenStreetMap; photos: Wikimedia Commons.
Cookies
- Technical (always on, no consent needed):
sbm_sessionto keep you logged in (90 days),sbm_langfor the language,sbm_inviteif you arrive from an invite link (30 days). Your browser also keeps your preferences (language, theme, filters, favourites, cookie choice). - Statistics (only if you choose "Accept"): Google Analytics (
_ga,_ga_*), with anonymised IP, to understand how many people use the app and which features. If you reject, Google Analytics is not loaded. - Maps: Google or Mapbox maps are loaded from their servers, which receive your IP address to show you the map.
How long
Account data as long as the account exists. Sessions expire after 90 days; confirmation and password links after 7 days and 1 hour.
Your rights
From Your account you can manage your profile. You can ask at any time for your account to be deleted, a copy of your data, access, correction, deletion, restriction or objection by writing to info@skateboardmap.com, and complain to your data protection authority.
